The North Island waters are home to some tasty and scrappy bottom fish! There are halibut, lingcod, yellow-eye rockfish, plus an assortment of smaller rockfish species. Some of the finest eating fish that swim! Bottom fish can be taken by a variety of methods.

Drift fishing over shoals and rock-piles is a popular method, as well as anchoring up over a bait bag and letting the fish come to you. Often we are able to troll up your halibut and lingcod on our conventional salmon fishing gear. This offers you the chance to fight a 100 pound-plus fish on light gear. Quite an experience!

The West Coast offers particularly good bottom fishing, but this is open water fishing, often in large swells. The rewards are great though, with greater variety, and more liberal bag limits! These trips are slightly more expensive, due to distance traveled, and higher fuel costs. Book today!
